Carbon Filters

Carbon filters are a useful tool in wastewater treatment due to their effectiveness in a relatively small footprint. The primary goal of carbon filtration is to target specific contaminants that can lead to unpleasant tastes, odors, allergens, and pollutants. The granular activated carbon (GAC) that these vessels utilize has a very large surface area relative to its size allowing it to adsorb (trap) a variety of organic compounds. As the water is pumped through the vessel, a chemical reaction occurs with the carbon media, allowing adsorption to occur, binding the contaminants to the surface of the carbon media.
Some examples of contaminants that activated carbon vessels can remove include: chlorine, chloramine, volatile organic compounds, pesticides, nitrates, hydrogen sulfide, heavy metals, etc. Blue Tank & Pump Rental can also work with industry professionals to tailor a custom blend of carbon, or other media, to specifically target the contaminant that is present in your wastewater.

Advantages:

  • Carbon is a natural filtration media that is typically made from wood or coconut shells
  • It is a safe and natural process
  • The carbon can be purchased as reactivated carbon rather than virgin, which has a lower cost and minimizes waste disposal but also may have slightly less effectiveness and shorter lifespans
  • Widely removes unwanted contaminants and odors
  • Versatile – we can tailor specific blends to target certain contaminants
  • Widely available at fairly affordable costs
